I originally posted a tangent against the Plan Dealer for writing about nepotism within the City/County Government...only later to have deleted it.

But this article really resonates with me...that there are much more corrupt City Governments in the Country and that we should focus on the strengths of Cleveland and the optimism we have going in to 2009. PD, no more mug shot articles about the County Auditor and his 2nd-cousin-twice-removed making $40,000 on the city payroll...okay?

The city of Cleveland stands by, expecting a fire sale of some sorts, as Shapiro all but waves the proverbial white flag on the 2008 season. I can't say that I'm that disappointed in the Tribe's performance this year. Wait, I take that back...yes I am. Perhaps it's the anticipation of September 7 at Cleveland Browns Stadium that's clouding my judgement.

I don't know about you, Browns fans, but I can't help but get goose bumps just thinking about this season. Mixed emotions of optimism hearing such great things about the improvements and additions we made during the off-season. At the same time, I can't help but sweat bullets over the intense schedule. I agree with the Monday Morning Quarterback: the AFC North champion could very well enter the post-season with a 9-7 record.

I Remember the Day...

...that LeCharles Bentley became a Brown. The emails between my Chicago and Cleveland-based buddies flew back and forth with a fury.

I also remember the day that a similar email thread revealed the grim truth about Bentley's injury at training camp. The feeling of frustration and doom was palpable...even through email.

This article doesn't help quell any of the doubt regarding Bentley's future with the Cleveland Browns organization. I personally hope that he does become healthy enough to return to the team as a starting O-Lineman. He has always been a formidable charatcter both on and off the field and his passion for bringing Cleveland an NFL championship.

Can He Keep It Going?

The last two Eastern Conference games will surely not be forgotten any time soon. The level of intensity was something I haven't seen from the Cavs, or any other professional sports team for that matter, in a very long time.

I can't wait to be in Cleveland this weekend, albeit for only two days. Just long enough for me to soak up as much of the excitement as I can and bring it back with me to Chicago for the rest of the Finals.

All my peoples living in Cleveland, I envy you. It has to be a great time to be living in The Cleve.

But all this excitement and elation aside, can they finish what they set out to do...be crowned NBA Champs?

I am a huge believer in helping students find their entrepreneurial passion early, especially those students living in NEO. My first experience learning about being an entrepreneur was the "Entrepreneur's Club" at Saint Ignatius High School, started and moderated by our Economics teacher at the time, Dan Hess. Kudos to Cleveland State for what looks like a successful 2nd annual Cleveland Area High School Business Plan Competition.

Back from Hilton Head

If you're ever in Hilton Head, I would definitely recommend Hudson's. While you're waiting for your table: Head to the outdoor bar, grab a Yuengling and hang out with the acoustic bass and guitar duo on the outdoor bar. These guys are awesome and only there during the summer. Right on the edge of the island on you way towards the mainland, it is DEFINITELY well worth the trip from Sea Pines/South Beach. Back to the grind tomorrow.

Anyone else slightly concerned over Braylon Edwards ' no-show at the first Browns' practice? Ever since his hold-out at the beginning of the 2005 season, I've never really been able to figure out if I'm a fan of his or not. He can be an exciting receiver to watch at times, I'll give him that.

For those who read the story on Cleveland.com, I love the reference to Chuck Frye's pledge to "be more of a leader this season". Buddy...your days are numbered. Your future consists of starting the first couple tough AFC games. Start praying Joe Thomas has an excellent summer, gets the starting spot and is able to deflect a lot of what will be coming after you. After that, you're out. Better extend that contract with Lexus Akron/Canton while you can. I love those latenight spots too much!

While I'm still waiting for the Bernie Kosar FatHead to start shipping again (no sign of it on their site any more), I read the great news about Bernie's plans to open a steakhouse in the flats. I called this several months ago...as he could only hide in Miami, FL for so long. With Cleveland on the brink of some HUGE development plans, it was only a matter of time. Is it too early to claim Bernie's Steak House will be the most successful project among all of the Flats projects?

I was pleasantly surprised to read about Great Lakes Brewery's plans for expansion over the next couple years. Located just a few blocks away from SIHS, it is GREAT to hear about their plans for additional growth. Plus, with a six pack of GL running me anywhere between $10-12 at my local Whole Foods in Chicago, I can't wait until these guys have the ability to widely distribute their product without consumers outside of NEO having to pay such a premium.

My friend Vince recently shared a link to Cleveland's Strategy for Development and Revitalization of Cleveland.

I couldn't help but get excited as I read through the first few pages of this very ambitious plan. There's nothing I would love more than to see Cleveland achieve even a small percentage of the successful development and progress Chicago has experienced over the past several years. A message to Mayor Jackson and Cleveland City Council: Now it's time to execute.
